Stress Anxiety & Overwhelm

Brighton Beach at Dawn on a misty day.png

If stress, anxiety or overwhelm weren't running your life, what would be different?

Would you feel calmer?
Sleep better?
Think more clearly?
Have more energy?
Feel less overwhelmed?
Feel more like yourself again?

Many people know they would like something in their life to be different. What they don't always know is where to start

Stress Doesn't Always Look Like Stress

Stress, anxiety and overwhelm can affect far more than our emotions. They can influence our concentration, memory, energy levels, relationships, physical health and overall wellbeing. For some people stress feels like constantly carrying too much.
Too many responsibilities.
Too many demands.
Too many decisions.
Too many people needing something from you.
Too much pressure.
Too little time.
Too little energy.
Too little space to simply breathe.
Over time, what once felt manageable can begin to feel exhausting.

For others anxiety can feel like living with a mind that never quite switches off.

For others anxiety can feel like living with a mind that never quite switches off.
Constantly thinking.
Constantly worrying.
Replaying conversations.
Imagining worst-case scenarios.
Feeling on edge even when everything appears okay. Always waiting for the next thing to happen.

Overwhelm often feels like there is simply too much

Too many tasks.
Too many decisions.
Too many responsibilities.
Too much information.
Too many things competing for your attention.
No matter how hard you try, it can feel like you're always one step behind.

Sometimes stress, anxiety and overwhelm
show up emotionally.
Sometimes mentally.
Sometimes physically.
Sometimes as all three at once

One of the biggest surprises for many people is discovering how many seemingly unrelated symptoms can actually be connected

Headaches.
Jaw tension.
Sore shoulders.
Neck pain.
Brain fog.
Exhaustion.

Irritability.

Feeling emotional.
Difficulty switching off.
Feeling like you're no longer coping as well as you used to

Sometimes people are so busy trying to keep everything together that they don't realise just how much stress they are carrying until their mind or body starts sending signals that something needs attention

Some of those signals may already sound familiar from the examples above.

They might show up as physical symptoms, emotional responses, changes in thinking, reduced concentration, exhaustion, feeling overwhelmed or simply feeling like you're no longer coping as well as you used to.

The important thing is recognising that these experiences may not be random. They may be clues that something needs attention

Understanding your Cup

One way of thinking about stress, anxiety and overwhelm
is to imagine your life as a cup.

When there is plenty of room left in the cup, most of us
can manage life's ups and downs reasonably well.

The challenge comes when more and more gets added
and there's less and less room left.

Eventually even a small event can be enough
to cause the cup to overflow

What's in your  Cup of Concerns?

TM 2_edited.png

Most of us can cope with challenges when there is still room
left in our cup.
The difficulty comes when life and circumstances keep
adding more and more.

Work pressures.
Financial stress.
Health concerns.
Relationship challenges.
Family responsibilities.
Caring for others.
Major life changes.
Expectations.
Responsibilities.
Worry.
Stress.
Anxiety.
Overwhelm.

At first we cope.
Then we adjust.
Then we push a little harder.
Eventually our cup becomes so full that even one
more thing can cause it to overflow.
Many people assume the final event is the problem.

Often it isn't.

It's simply the thing that tipped an already full cup over the edge

Take A Moment

If you were to look inside your own cup right now, what would you see?

What keeps getting added?
What's taking up space?
What keeps pushing everything closer to the top?

And perhaps just as importantly...
What's helping create space in your cup?

Many people spend years trying to manage the overflow without
ever looking at what is filling the cup in the first place.
